Why does your dryer vent need to be cleaned?
The answer is simple: dryer vents can become clogged with lint over time which restricts the air-flow from your dryer to the outside. This can significantly increase the time it takes to get your clothes dry, sometimes items will still be damp after running 3 or more cycles. Most newer clothes dryers have sensors on them which will completely turn the dryer off if there is enough of a blockage, then you cant do laundry at all!
Given the proper circumstances, a vent blockage can also start a fire in your home. This is becoming less frequent due to those sensors we mentioned, but its still a real threat to your home and family with thousands of fires annually in the US linked to dirty dryer vents. Another potential issue: water damage. Your dryer’s job is to pull the moisture out of your clothes and exhaust it to the outside of your home. If your vent is plugged or restricted, there’s no-where for that moisture to go causing it to sometimes build up within the vent… until it finds a way out and leaks through your ceiling!
How often should you clean your dryer vent?
The frequency at which your dryer vent needs to be cleaned can vary based on a number of circumstances. These can include the distance between your dryer and the outside vent, the number of turns the pipe makes on its way outside, and whether your pipe leads outside through your roof or through the side of your home. Many vents should be cleaned once per year to ensure proper ventilation and safety.
Cleaning a dryer vent can be a fairly quick process, but it does require special equipment in order to be done properly. We have equipment specifically designed for cleaning dryer vents to ensure that the entire length of the pipe is cleaned without causing any damage. We also carry specialty camera systems that allow us to inspect the vent both before and after cleaning is completed.
